In 2008, John Stumbo experienced what most would call\u00a0The Big One<\/em>. John\u00a0was a long distance runner, even doing ultra-marathons. He was a mountain climber, often\u00a0on Mount Hood. He was a cyclist\u00a0\u2013\u00a0a healthy guy. He never spent a day in the hospital.<\/p>\n And then The Big One hi<\/strong>t when he was 47 years of age.\u00a0On October 18, 2008, he went for a short run \u2014 just 10 miles.\u00a0He noticed that day that he had a rash on his body.\u00a0Next day, he felt like he was getting the flu. In a short time he\u00a0could not bend his arm to brush his teeth due to the swelling. In about\u00a0a week\u2019s time, he had lost his ability to\u00a0drive.\u00a0He couldn\u2019t move his legs, even from the gas to the brake.\u00a0Whatever was hitting him was hitting him hard and fast.<\/p>\n One of his last conscious memories was a doctor with a chart in his hand saying, \u201cI\u2019ve never seen anyone with such low levels of sodium who is still alive!\u201d\u00a0His whole system was shutting down. Over the course of time, his wife was called into the room numerous times, because they were sure he was dying. As he regained some strength, it was evident that whatever attacked him attacked his muscular system from head to toe.\u00a0Unable to eat, drink \u2014 for months. He couldn\u2019t swallow his own saliva. That was just the beginning of his journey.\u00a0You can read about the rest of it in his book,\u00a0An Honest Look at a Mysterious Journey<\/em>.<\/p>\n When you think of that stretch of highway along Dr. Stumbo\u2019s journey, eventually, you ask yourself the question:\u00a0What if that happened to me?\u00a0What will I do when the big one hits me?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n A couple of weeks ago, Dr. Stumbo addressed that issue in a blog for Alliance pastors and international workers.\u00a0What will you do when the big one hits?<\/em>\u00a0In his blog post, Dr. Stumbo gave seven pieces of counsel that apply to us all in being prepared for the future.<\/p>\n This podcast is the first of seven messages revolving around those seven ideas.<\/strong>\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0looking\u00a0at being prepared for the Big One \u2014 not by stock-piling food, but by learning to prepare\u00a0our souls.<\/p>\n I\u00a0hope you\u2019ll follow each message\u00a0and that God will use them to strengthen you for whatever the future holds.<\/p>\n ~Steve<\/p>\n If racing against mere men makes you tired, how will you race against horses?
