Pheasant Hunting…

Click for Larger ImageThis past month some of our family took some time to go pheasant hunting in Central Pennsylvania at Pleasant View Pheasants.

You can see, we had a great time. The food, coffee, guides, and dogs were great. The birds weren’t bad either!

If you go to Pleasant View tell them Steve sent you. Maybe they will give you some extra cinnamon rolls!

  1. Very pleasant! (I tried it out myself– they do a great job up there).

How many boxes of shells did you shoot for the 14 (my count) birds? I shot about a box to get 4. Yeah, I’m that good.

Are those some doves in there? I’m looking at the three lighter colored birds on the left side.

  2. Pleasant? Well – it was a blast!!!

There were five of us, so I don’t know how many shells we shot. One of us (no blood relation of mine) took a 16 gauge and shot 20 gauge shells in it for the first hour. He didn’t do well until he put the right ammo in his gun. 🙂

The birds in the picture are either pheasants (ring neck and hens) or chukars – a kind of partridge. If I had it to do again, I probably do more chukars because they are just as fun to shoot.

  3. That’s almost wrong…! 😀

I’ve always thought it would be fun to shoot clay pidgeons. The idea of killing something alive horrifies me (but I don’t begrudge anyone else doing it, I just couldn’t myself–If I had to, yes I would. But I don’t, so I don’t. :)) but target shooting I always found to be fun. I’m not a bad shot either, which usually surprises my uncle every time because, according to him, I do it wrong.

  4. I bought a clay pigeon launcher this past November and took it to our family Thanksgiving. We shot all 100 clays. It was some of the most fun we’d ever had together.

Grandpa Smith is the good shot. Those pheasants and chukars wouldn’t stand a chance if he’d gone with us. Unless he’d used that one guy’s 16 gauge with the 20 gauge shells in it. 😉

  5. I shot clay pigeons for a while up there at PVP, and busted 100%. My dad couldn’t hit any. But for whatever odd reason, that didn’t translate to the live game. I hit my first shot, then missed about the next 25, but he hit most of his shots first try. I wonder if they’d let you just go up and shoot clays for a while, to practice.

  6. If he’s that good it won’t matter.

Now, that sounds like a fun church outing if you ask me…I have the property. 🙂

It would be worth asking. Ask Scott or Earl.

    Wendy — you ROCK!
