A Variety of Sermon Series

Pastoral ministry has many demands. Perhaps the greatest demand is the one of time.

As such, ShieldsGroup makes sermon series available to pastors and Bible teachers without charge. These sermons are designed to be relevant to our day by providing biblical guidance. They do not replace pastoral study, but help the busy pastor when he is pressed for time or simply needs some fresh ideas.

“I have used Steve’s sermon outlines on several occasions. The good response that I have received from my congregation confirms to me that they are biblically sound and address the needs of people today.” ~~LT

Available series include:

Avoiding Common Pitfalls: A series of 11 sermons in 106 pages on avoiding pitfalls common to man.

While driving in an unfamiliar rural area on a dirt road, a man approached what appeared to be a large mud puddle. Proceeding through it, he quickly learned that it was a deep mud hole into which his car sunk to the frame. Within moments, a farmer approached on his tractor. “For 20 bucks, I’ll pull you out of there.” he offered. “All right,” the driver agreed. After the farmer pocketed the money, he said, “You know, your is the tenth car I’ve rescued today.” “Wow,” the driver said. “When do you have time to work your land — at night?” “No,” the farmer replied, “Night is when I refill this hole with water!” That farmer was setting a trap — a pitfall for travelers. Life is filled with pitfalls: perfectionism, a demand that everyone to like you, the temptation to be a “control freak,” indulging in a lifestyle of self-pity, processing life to a mathematical equation, feeling that nothing will ever go right, feeling helpless, blaming others, obsessing about things you should give to God, avoiding problems by acting irresponsibly. These sermons are designed to help us avoid these pitfalls by filling the mud puddle with truth from God’s Word.

Each sermon follows this format:

    I. What Is the Pitfall
    II. Why Is it Dangerous?
III. What Biblical Truth Can We Fill the Hole With? (You can see the truth in this overview).

Pitfalls addressed are:

Perfectionism: Feeling I Must be Perfect
Approval: An Inordinate Need for Love
    Omnipotence: Being a Controller
Self-pity: Believing Life Is Harder for Me
Mathematician: If I am good, life should be good.
Pessimistic Fatalism: Believing One Cannot Change
Helplessness: Living At the Mercy of Your Feelings
Blaming: Blaming Others for Your Unhappiness
    Obsessing: Unhealthy Focus
Problem Avoidance: Believing If I Ignore My Problems they will Go Away
    Extremism: Living Life without Moderation
